Andrea Gulli

Initially trained as a lawyer Andrea Gulli left that profession in 2017 to concentrate entirely on art. At the centre of his work is constant experimentation in pictorial technique and the injunctions of shape and colour. The contrasting combinations of materials, forms, colours and textures, which are both constitutive and determinative objects gives rise to perhaps the first order of thinking where mute expressive forms generate an eloquent and intense language of human interiority. So conceived the claim is that the figure pre-exists the psyche, revealing that we are born into an informed and symbolic world that both generates our individuality and our universality. Hence the patterning and structure and intense contemplative relationality of Gulli’s works as it depicts our mental life as formed in relationship to the objects that preceded and shaped it.
