Adam McEwen BRITISH, b. 1965

Overview

In his sculptures, paintings, and installations, Adam McEwen deploys a series of interventions that thwart our expectations and jolt us into a new awareness of the mass media dominating our daily lives. A former obituary writer for The Daily Telegraph, McEwen has exhibited blown-up reproductions of newspaper obits of still-living celebrities like Bill Clinton, Jeff Koons, and Nicole Kidman. He has also turned text messages from friends into framed haiku-like riddles and exhibited "gum" paintings. McEwen's influences include Andy Warhol, Richard Prince, and Michael Asher.
