Rezi van Lankveld DUTCH, b. 1973

Overview

Rezi van Lankveld is known for her process-based, "all or nothing" mode of painting that combines abstraction and figuration, chance and determination. She works by pouring or applying paint loosely onto boards or canvas, then pushing and stroking the paint until figures and landscapes can be discerned out of the brushstrokes, swirls, and drips. With their muted palette of blues and grays, van Lankveld's muddy, impressionistic works recall Old Master canvases by way of Surrealist automatic drawing and Jackson Pollock's action painting.
